Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
THE EVENT - October 2009
Now, SPARSH Foundation has conceived an ambitious plan, which demands huge skills, great commitment, enormous effort and a sublime meeting of minds. But, still, eminently do-able.
In late October 2009, we will conduct a week-long surgical event to operate upon 200 economically-underprivileged children with complex orthopaedic problems. SPARSH is putting together all its resources to create a unique medical event that will be a transformational experience for many - medical professionals and patients alike.
A team of international and Indian doctors which include paediatric orthopaedic surgeons, paediatric anaesthetists, nurses and therapists -- a total of 30 specialists -will work together for a week at SPARSH hospital, operating 24 hours of the day, with teams working in shifts. The hospital will suspend all its routine activities to direct all its attention and resources towards this event.
The aspiration behind this event is that to create a movement which will light a flame of hope in the dark despair that fills so many lives. If a solution for an impossible or acute medical problem exists, then it must be used and it must be made available to those who need it, regardless of their financial status.
Our dream is that one day the world will disengage affluence from health care!
